If you are looking for something a little different to occupy an hour whilst in Hawkshead, then head over to the Chocolate Factory. Along with a café and a shop that both serve delicious chocolate creations, the factory runs workshops throughout the day where you can get messy and create your own chocolate treats.
The workshops are primarily aimed at children, but adults can join in as well, either as part of a family group, or in special adult only workshops.

Things To See

At the start of the workshop, children are given an apron and hairnet (these can be taken home at the end of the session), and then taken into the factory area. Parents can either accompany them by booking onto a family session and join in the fun, or they can watch the action in comfort from the café with large glass screens giving views of what their children are doing.
During the workshops, children create a chocolate bar by mixing white and milk chocolate together with the option to decorate it with sweets. Moulds with various shapes are provided so that the children can create a chocolate shape of their choosing. The children can also dip marshmallows into chocolate and have their faces painted with chocolate. Finally everything is packed into a bag to be taken home.
Of course, it’s not just children who enjoy chocolate, and the Chocolate Factory also hosts adult only workshops. During these sessions participants will be invited to create fourteen truffles, whilst enjoying a couple of glasses of Prosecco. For special events, such as birthday celebrations or hen nights, the factory can provide specially tailored workshops for groups of 20 or more.
Useful Information
Advanced booking isn’t always necessary but it is advisable during peak periods such as bank holiday weekends and school summer holidays. The workshops last around 45-minutes. There is a café and shop on site. The café serves hot and cold drinks, including luxurious hot chocolate, along with a host of chocolate treats. The shop stocks a selection of chocolates created in the factory.
