Housed in a state of the art purpose built building at the southern end of Lake Windermere, the Lakeland Motor Museum boasts of a fantastic collection of over 30,000 motoring related exhibits.

There is something for everyone at the museum, whether it be the delightful collection of classic cars, the unique displays of items from the early 20th century, or the celebration of the works of the Women’s Land Army during the world wars.

The museum offers much more than a collection of cars and is a great day out for the family, especially as you can combine your entrance ticket with a ticket for the Windermere Lake Cruises and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway.

Things To See

Car enthusiasts will love the motoring exhibit. Here all manner of cars manufactured in the last 100 years are on display, such as Bentleys, Cadillacs, and even modern super cars. The museum is also home to a fine collection of vintage and modern motorbikes and scooters, as well as pedal cars, popular in the 1950s amongst children of wealthier families.

There is a unique exhibition about the record breaking pursuits of Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald, who broke several land and water speed records, including a replica Bluebird. In addition, there are exhibits around the use of motoring in history, such as an exhibit on early motoring in the Lake District, and recreations of a 1920s garage, an early 20th century shopping street, and a 1950s "greasy spoon" café.
