Keswick Launch

Keswick Launch
If you want a quieter alternative to the lake cruises of Windermere and Ullswater then those offered by the Keswick Launch Company on Derwent Water may be just for you.
A 50-minute cruise around Derwent Water takes in some of the more secluded spots on the lake shore and gives you a chance to enjoy breath-taking scenery without the need for a long and arduous hike.

History
The Keswick Launch Company was formed in 1935 with just one boat, taking advantage of the Lake District’s growing popularity as a tourist destination. Competing with smaller companies that only offered private rowboats for hire, the company brought a touch of glamour to the lake with its flagship boat, the May Queen.
As the company’s success grew, additional boats were added to the fleet and whilst the original May Queen sadly deteriorated beyond repair, the fleet is a popular attraction today.
Things To See
Tickets for the cruise allow you to leave the boat at any point to re-join later. There are six jetties in total where you can hop off either to admire the scenery, walk to the next jetty, or enjoy a pub lunch. Stops on the western side of the lake (Hawes End, Low Brandelow, and High Brandelow) will give you access to the national trail, the Cumbria Way, and this particular stretch is wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
There are picnic benches on the route and the trail leads you along the shore and through woodland that during the late spring is host to a beautiful display of bluebells. On the eastern edge, you can get off at Lodore Falls and enjoy afternoon tea at the hotel there that overlooks these stunning waterfalls.
Between Easter and October row boats and motor boats are available to hire privately, giving you an alternatively option for exploring the lake.
Useful Information
Dogs are welcome aboard the boats. Sadly, not all boats are wheelchair accessible and for those that are the wheelchair user will need assistance to board and disembark.
Tickets
Cheaper single fares are available if you are travelling between two points. Tickets can be purchased on the day of travel. Group rates and private charters are also available.
