Winter Walks
One of the best things to do in the Lake District in January is to go for a stroll in the crisp winter air. We recommend using an app, such as AllTrails, where you can download the route prior to your visit in case you lose signal and you can also choose a route based on your fitness level and your preferred distance/difficulty level.
Remember that daylight is shorter in January with average daylight times from 8.30am to around 4pm. And, remember, there is never bad weather – only bad clothing! Please do your research in advance or book yourself onto a guided walk if you are not confident walking outdoors.
Pubs with Fireplaces

After your walk, why not stop in one of the many pubs in the Lake District with a fireplace to warm up? There are plenty of options, along with pubs that are dog friendly or ones that have sports screens if you fancy a break from the Great British Weather.
Conservation Days with the Cumbria Wildlife Trust

The Cumbria Wildlife Trust throws a series of conservation days throughout the year with plenty offered in January in various parts of the Lake District. Normally the events are free as you are essentially volunteering your time to help with various conservation projects, however, booking a place is required.
