Wigton Baths

Stony Banks, Wigton, CA7 9GZ

After a brief closure under the management of the local council, a successful community led campaign resulted in Wigton Baths reopening in 2015. Today the baths are operated by a community trust that is made up of volunteers from the local community. It is a much loved resource in this small town that lies approximately half way between Carlisle and Cockermouth, in west Cumbria.

Indoor Pool

The pool at Wigton Baths is housed in a purpose built building. The pool is 18-metres long, and 9-metres wide, with four lanes. The depth ranges from 1 metre at the shallow end and 2 metres at the deep end. It is heated to around 29C. The pool also has great environmental credentials, with solar panels providing much of the energy needed to keep it heated.

The pool has timetabled sessions throughout the week with sessions available for general swim, women only, adults only, parents and babies, family fun with floats, and aqua aerobics. The pool also has a swimming lesson programme, and children can receive a free-swimming assessment before they start. In addition, you can hire the pool for children’s birthday parties, costing £60 for a one hour party.

The changing rooms have been refurbished, and there is a dedicated changing / wet room for disabled users.

Other Features

There is no café or kiosk on the site, but Wigton town centre is a short walk from the baths, and there you will find various shops and places to eat.
