This is a classic British inn that benefits from its own micro-brewery, enabling visitors to sample some of the best real ales that the Lake District has to offer. Located in the centre of Coniston, the Black Bull Inn is ideal for visitors wishing to explore the southern fells, including the Old Man of Coniston and Grizedale Forest.

Restaurants & Bars

Guests of the Black Bull Inn can enjoy a cooked breakfast that is prepared to order each morning, along with a selection of fresh fruits, cereals, and toast. Food is served throughout the day, and daily specials are available, including options for vegetarians and the catch of the day. The menu is comprised of traditional pub grub items, but with a focus on locally sourced produce.

Many visitors are drawn to the Black Bull because of its microbrewery. The Coniston Brewing Company is the brainchild of Ian Bradley, son of the Black Bull’s owners, and is located in a building behind the inn. Using water from the Coniston fells the company brews the famous Bluebird Bitter that has won numerous awards, including Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival. Enjoy this ale, plus a number of other ales, spirits, whiskeys, wines, soft drinks, and tea and coffee at the inn, where you will find open fires and comfortable seating.

Additional Facilities and Services

The Black Bull has two rooms that can be hired out for private parties, accommodating up to 40 people.
