The Furness Railway Wetherspoon Outside

Residents of the UK will be very familiar with the JD Wetherspoon brand, best known for its chain of pubs up and down the country that offer low cost food and beer without any fuss. In recent years, the chain has expanded into the hotel business, and now has around 40 hotels across the country. As with their pubs, Wetherspoon’s hotels offer all the standard amenities without any fussiness or unnecessary extras, and give good value for money.

The Furness Railway in Barrow-In-Furness is one of the chain’s newest additions to its hotel portfolio and opened in September 2015. Following a £3.5 million refurbishment programme, the accommodation now sits above the existing Wetherspoon pub in a former department store building. The hotel is situated in the centre of the town that lies on the southern tip of the Barrow peninsula. Nearby attractions include the South Lakes Safari Zoo and Piel Island.

Accommodation

The Furness Railway hotel has 50 rooms in total, making it one of the larger hotels in the area. All of the accommodation was brand new for 2015, and therefore includes all modern amenities, such as en-suite bathroom facilities and temperature controls. Rooms are tastefully decorated in a bright, modern style. King or twin rooms are available as well as family rooms that include one king size bed and one double sofa-bed.

Most rooms are fairly spacious and feature additional seating. All rooms benefit from complimentary toiletries, free Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions, and a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, and bottled water. Accessible rooms with wet room facilities and ground floor access are available.

Restaurants & Bars

On the ground floor of the hotel, you will find the Wetherspoon pub that was also fully refurbished when the hotel rooms were created above. The chain has a standard menu that is available throughout its establishments across the country. It’s certainly not fine dining, but it will fill you up for a low price.

The menu is extensive with pub classics, light bites, healthy mains, salads, pastas, grills and burgers all available, as well as special dishes for those with dietary requirements. There is a children’s menu where mains include a piece of fruit and a drink. Breakfast is also available in the pub, and again, there is a large selection to choose from, including cooked vegetarian options, modern favourites, such as avocado on bagels, as well as the traditional full English.

Additional Facilities & Services

There is a small meeting room available to hire at the Furness Railway Wetherspoon.
