Cumbria Strength & Conditioning

Unit 2, Long Lane Industrial Estate, Billings Road, Dalton-In-Furness, LA13 0PF

Cumbria Strength & Conditioning is not your usual gym. You won’t find any cardiovascular machines here for a start, nor any additional facilities, such as a pool or sauna. However, if you are looking to improve your overall strength and fitness, recover from an old injury, rejuvenate your postnatal body, or simply get the motivation you need from qualified professionals, you will find it all at this unique facility.

Housed in a warehouse in Dalton-In-Furness, the gym is the brainchild of a former Royal Marine Commando who made a successful recovery from a debilitating back injury using many of the techniques he teaches at the gym. Your first session at the gym is free. Thereafter, sessions start at £5 or you can sign up for a monthly membership. Alternatively, you can buy a two week pass for £28, which is a useful option if you are staying in the area.

Equipment

Unlike your average gym, Cumbria Strength & Conditioning is not equipped with any cardiovascular machines. However, it does have a huge range of Olympic free weights and other equipment that is used for strength and conditioning training, such as climbing ropes and kettlebells, as well as a TRX frame.

The gym operates on a timetabled session basis, with “open gym” sessions available at various times throughout the week. Outside of these sessions, you can use the equipment independently of any classes that are taking place at the same time, providing that your workout does not impede on the class.

Fitness Classes

The unique selling point for Cumbria Strength and Conditioning are the classes that are offered. All classes take place in the gym with a timetable in operation, and there are classes available every day, throughout the day. Classes are available in Conditioning Training (including ladies only classes), Olympic Weight Training, and Strongman Training. During these classes the instructors will lead you on a range of activities that will help build your strength and fitness, using the equipment in the gym.

The gym also offers Buggy Conditioning Classes, for mothers of babies and toddlers. These classes make use of your pushchair as part of your training, and your child can attend with you, avoiding the need to find childcare.

Classes start at £5 and are usually one hour long.

Personal Trainers

Personal training is at the heart of what Cumbria Strength and Training has to offer. Rather than personal training sessions that you need to pay extra for, you can receive bespoke support whilst attending one of the classes or using the gym, from a team of qualified and highly trained professionals. In addition, when you first attend you can receive a free functional movement screen that assesses your movements to identify any problem areas.

Facilities

There are no additional facilities at the gym, but Dalton-In-Furness town centre is a few minutes drive away, where you will find shops, restaurants, cafés, etc.
