Sanctuary Health and Fitness Club – Riverside Hotel

Right in the centre of Kendal, the Sanctuary Health and Fitness Club is housed within the 17th century building that is the Riverside Hotel. This is a medium sized gym with excellent additional facilities including a pool and spa suite, as well as a fitness studio with a range of classes.

Although the club is part of the hotel’s facilities and free to use for hotel residents, the club is also open to members, and offers a day pass for just £8. This is great value for money, especially when you consider the club’s very convenient location just minutes from Kendal train station.

Equipment

There are around 20 stations of equipment housed in one room, from various trusted brands including Cybex and Star Trac. There are treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines, steppers, cross trainers, and two Cybex Arc trainers for a full body workout that is gentle on your joints. The gym is also equipped with various resistance training machines, including presses, extension and curl machines, lat machines, and a good selection of free weights including dumbbells up to 40Kg.

Fitness Classes

Aqua Aerobics classes are available in the pool, and are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Personal Training

Personal training sessions are available with prices starting at £30 per session. These sessions will provide you with a personalised diet and exercise plan and can also help in other areas, including injury rehabilitation and event training.

Facilities

There is a small heated pool that is 10 metres long and 1.35 metres deep. The pool has a partitioned shallow section for children, and you can book the pool for a child’s birthday party, costing £10 per child for a minimum of 8 children, maximum 20 with lunch included in the price.

There is a hot tub adjacent to the pool that holds up to 8 people. Furthermore, the club has a sauna that has recently been fully refurbished and a steam room.

Other Features

The hotel has both a formal restaurant and lounge bar, and an informal bar and bistro. The bistro has an outdoor seating area that overlooks the river.
