Westmorland Crossfit

Although Westmorland Crossfit in Kendal does have most of the equipment you would expect in a traditional style gym, it takes a slightly different approach that stems from an American concept known as Crossfit. Created by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai, Crossfit is strength and conditioning training programme that combines high intensity interval training, weight-lifting, functional training, gymnastics and aerobics with the focus being on group classes rather than individual workout sessions.

This gym is located close to the centre of Kendal, and was founded by an ex-member of the armed forces. Membership options are available that either simply include use of the gym or include access to the Crossfit programme of classes that take place every day. You can also use the gym as a one-off, and this costs £5.

Equipment

The gym has a small selection of cardiovascular equipment with two or three of each of the following: treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines and exercise bikes. As this is a Crossfit gym, much of the space is given over to strength and conditioning training equipment.

There is a huge selection of weights with benches, racks, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, etc. There is a TRX station, and a small selection of resistance machines, including presses and lat machines. In addition, there are various accessories, such as fitness balls and mats.

Fitness Classes

The gym hosts classes in the Crossfit training programme. Classes in the programme offer workouts of the day, and combine elements from a range of disciplines that will improve your fitness, strength, stamina, agility and more. Beginner classes are available. You can attend on a one-off basis and this will cost you £7. The gym also offers classes in Boxercise and gymnastics.

Other Features

The gym does not have a café but is within walking distance of Kendal town centre with its array of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
