DW Fitness Carlisle

DW Fitness is a national chain of health clubs and sports retail shops, with over 60 shops and clubs across the country. In Carlisle, the club is housed in the same site as a sports store, in a large retail park on the southern edge of the city centre with plenty of free parking. More than just a gym, you’ll find a full range of fitness and wellbeing facilities here, including a pool, hot tub, steam room, and fitness studio.

As this is part of a national chain, membership enables you to access any one of the company’s gyms across the country. The gym does not have day passes, but it does enable non-members to try the gym for free with a guest pass valid for one day’s use that can be obtained online before you visit.

Equipment

All of the gyms in the DW Fitness group are equipped with everything you need to complete your workout. Cardiovascular machines are state-of-the art from the highly respected manufacturer, Techogym. There are cross trainers, treadmills, rowing machines and exercise bikes, all housed in a large, open space, with enough machines available for everyone.

For strength training and conditioning, you will find the full range of resistance machines, free weights with dumbbells up to 50kg and customisable barbells, kettlebells and a TRX frame. You will also find mats, exercise balls and other accessories.

Fitness Classes

DW Fitness has two dedicated fitness studios, and fitness classes are available all day, everyday. There is something for everyone here with a large range of classes that includes spinning, metafit, Zumba, bodypump, stretch & tone, pilates, aerobics, and circuits. In addition, over the in the pool, you will find aqua aerobics. Classes are included in the membership fee, and are generally 30-45 minutes in length.

Personal Training

You can receive a free personal training session at the club when you first sign up for membership. Thereafter, personal trainers are available at the club, but operate on a self-employed basis, and you can typically expect to pay around £35 per hour, depending on the trainer.

Facilities

The club also has a pool and spa facility. The pool is 20m long, and 9m wide, so is a good size for fitness swimming. Swimming lessons are available here.

There is also a menthol steam room and two hot tubs. In the changing area, you will find vertical tanning units, so you can finish off your workout with a boost to your appearance.

Other Features

There is a café at the gym serving healthy food, protein drinks, and Starbucks coffee. On the ground floor, there is a large sports store selling the full range of sports equipment.
